L2/07-409 ISO/IEC 10646:2003/FDAM 3, Information Technology – Universal Multiple-Octet Coded Character Set (UCS) – Amendment 3: Lepcha, Ol Chiki, Suarashtra, Vai, and other characters SC2 N3979 November 25, 2007 2/3

Resolved 8:0:0:2 to approve with comment:

In page 18, the graphic symbols of two characters 0333 COMBINING DOUBLE LOW LINE and 0347 COMBINING EQUALS SIGN BELOW have been inappropriately modified compared to ISO/IEC 10646:2003. The double low line should never be narrower than the equals sign (they were roughly identical in ISO/IEC 10646:2003). The combining double low line should have the same width as the combining single low line (code position 0332) as originally in ISO/IEC 10646:2003 and the combining equals sign below should have the same width as the combining minus sign below (code position 0320). A note along the following lines would be desirable:

NOTE - This amendment contains graphic symbols for 0333 COMBINING DOUBLE LOW LINE and 0347 COMBINING EQUALS SIGN BELOW which have been incorrectly modified. The graphic symbol for 0333 should be restored to the symbol used in ISO/IEC 10646:2003, while the graphic symbol for 0347 should be narrowed to a width comparable with the graphic symbol for 0320 COMBINING MINUS SIGN BELOW.

L2/07-180 SC22 N4205 - Canadian Contribution to the 25-28 September 2007 JTC 1/ SC 22 Plenary on the Transfer of ISO/IEC TR 14652. Currently this TR resides in the INCITS L2 programme of work. L2 needs to review document SC22 N4205 and decide whether or not they wish to retain this TR. L2's recommendation will be sent to the CT22 Chairman for discussion at the August 2007 CT22 meeting, in preparation for the SC22 Plenary in September 2007. August 1, 2007 2/3

Resolved 7:0:1:2 to recommend that L2 retain ISO/IEC TR 14652 on its program of work.

In view of the fact that L2 has reviewed this Technical Report extensively in the past, it is appropriate that any future revision also be reviewed by L2.

L2 would also like to point out an error in the SC35 resolution quoted in document SC22 N4205. ISO/IEC TR 14652 is not an “International Standard”; it is a Type 1 Technical Report, as “the required support [could not] be obtained for the publication of an International Standard, despite repeated effort.”
