Description

Occitan is also commonly spoken in some locations in Spain and Italy, as follows :

1) Territory : Val d'Aran (Catalonia, Spain)
Status : Aranese (an Occitan dialect) is official language of Val d'Aran
Speaker population in this territory : 34% of the population of Val d'Aran (9,993 inhabitants) speak Aranese = about 3,400 speakers

2) Territories : Piedmont (North of Italy) and Guardia Piemontese (South of Italy)
Speaker population : 35% of 174,476 inhabitants in Piedmont = 61,000 + less than 1,917 in South of Italy (because not all the 1,917 inhabitants of Guardia Piemontese still speak Occitan dialect)
