Hijri dates in Saudi: should perhaps change to Gregorian?

Reported by: johnerez@… Owned by: pedberg
Component: datetime Data Locale: ar-SA
Phase: rc Review:
Weeks: Data Xpath:

I'm working on Google Search, and encountered some user feedback about how we present dates for Sports games results (queries such as "fifa world cup 2018").

Users are complaining that the Hijri dates have are meaningless for them, and they would prefer Gregorian.

Quoting users:

"Am saudi and no one uses hijri"
"the dates are in hijri, no one uses hijri anymore so i have no idea when the matches are going to take place. It's the same for most events when i google for them. Please fix this and bring back the gregorian dates"
