Description

In the chart https://www.unicode.org/cldr/charts/latest/supplemental/likely_subtags.html, the first line mentioning Ogham is wrong. It maps “unspecified” Old Irish to sga_Ogam_IE, but it should be mapped to sga_Latn_IE. The vast bulk of Old Irish text (and there is lots of it) is in manuscripts in the Latin script. Only a tiny amount is on stones in Ogham script. Middle Irish could be similarly mapped to mga_Latn_IE.

The second mention of Ogham maps “unspecified” Ogham text to sga_Ogam_IE. This is not so badly wrong, but it would be better to map it to pgl_Ogam_IE. I checked with David Stifter, professor of Old and Middle Irish at Maynooth University and he said that the vast majority of Ogam stones (which is what people usually think of when they talk about Ogam text) are certainly in Primitive Irish rather than Old Irish, and that his vote would definitely be for pgl_Ogam_IE.
