Examples for Scottish Gaelic plurals are wrong

Reported by: fios@… Owned by: kristi
Component: plurals Data Locale: gd
Phase: dsub Review:
Weeks: Data Xpath:
Xref:

Description

http://www.unicode.org/cldr/charts/latest/supplemental/language_plural_rules.html#gd currently has
1 chaora bhàin
1.0 chaora bhàin
2 caora bàn
2.0 caora bàn
3 chaora bhàn
3.0 chaora bhàn
20 caoraich bhàna
0.9 caoraich bhàna

These are *totally* wrong and look like someone hit Google Translate. First off, counting (only) a feminine noun is a bad choice because feminine nouns impact the adjective in different ways from masculine nouns. At the very least, 2 nouns need to be given as examples. The correct examples should be (adding taigh 'house' as an example of a masculine noun):

1 chaora bhàn, 1 taigh bàn
1.0 chaora bhàn, 1 taigh bàn
2 chaora bhàn, 2 thaigh bàn
2.0 chaora bhàn, 2 thaigh bàn
3 caoraich bàn, 3 taighean bàna
3.0 caoraich bàn, 3.0 taighean bàna
20 caora bàn, 20 taigh bàn
0.9 caora bàn, 0.9 taigh bàn

Someone should also check who committed these examples and whether someome is just making these up.

  1. The Survey Tool is blocking us from giving 2 examples, because we cannot duplicate the number placeholder. What we have there is "1,11 chaora bhàn, 2,12 chaora bhàin, 3-10,12-19 caoraich bhàna, * caora bàn". The important bit is that they are distinct, so I used a feminine noun with slightly antiquated grammar to circumvent this block.
  1. The minimal pairs in the chart do not match the minimal pairs that have been in the Survey Tool since at least the previous Summer's submission period, so somebody is not implementing them and just keeping the original Google Translate over what has been vetted.
  1. We have an open ticket for the ordinal numbers, which I created last week, because our original "please fix the plural forms" ticket has been closed on us: https://unicode.org/cldr/trac/ticket/11225 That one got accepted, so we can hopefully finally fix the ordinal numbers next summer.

#1. What you are asking is to have the ability to add two examples in these fields? http://st.unicode.org/cldr-apps/v#/gd/MinimalPairs/43b7793f1f673abe

In absence of having this ability to add 2 examples, are the current values the best choice?
Should this ticket title say "Allow 2 examples for minimal pairs" to clarify your ask?

#2, I don't understand what is not what's in the survey tool that doesn't match the chart. This would be a different issue though and mixing two issues will make things more complicated in tracking and getting things done. Could you please send the information about what's in the survey tool, pointer to the field, and what's in the chart and the pointer to the chart that you see are mismatching? (please send to me via email or open a separate ticket.)Thank you.
