Exemplar characters need spaces

Reported by: Marcel Schneider <charupdate@…> Owned by: mark
Component: exemplars-etc Data Locale: French
Phase: dsub Review:
Weeks: Data Xpath:

French makes extensive use of NNBSP and should have this somewhere in an exemplar character set.

Hence proposed addition is:

<exemplarCharacters type="spaces" draft="contributed">[     -   ]</exemplarCharacters>

  •   is not included because it is breakable, despite of   being non‐breakable.
  •   is not included because it is breakable.

These two space characters, particularly PUNCTUATION SPACE, could have been used to space French punctuations, but being breakable they couldn’t, making French de facto unsupported in Unicode during the first time until encoding of   NARROW NO-BREAK SPACE. (Obviously France could have lobbied to get needed characters encoded or accurate property values specified, and could have succeeded, like Vietnam did succeed in asking for preformatted letters for support of Vietnamese digital representation.)
