Some currency names in Korean are inconsistent or incorrect - BRL & GBP

Reported by: heehwang@… Owned by: anybody
Component: main Data Locale: ko_KR
Phase: dsub Review:
Weeks: Data Xpath:

1) BRL-name-other
EN: Brazilian reals
KO actual: 브라질 헤알
KO expected: 브라질 레알

  • Different translations (브라질 레알 Vs 브라질 헤알) are used in the name and name-other fields but the same translation should be used as in all other currency names in ko_KR since Korean does not differentiate singular/plural. These translations are in fact two possible translation options. 브라질 레알 is more-widely used while 브라질 헤알 sounds closer to the Portuguese pronunciation.

2) GBP-name
EN: British Pound
KO actual: 파운드
KO expected: 영국 파운드

  • Meaning of "British" is missing in translation. But it should be added to differentiate from other countries' pound.

3) GBP-name-other
EN: British Pounds
KO actual: 영국령 파운드 스털링
KO expected: 영국 파운드

*The current translation have extra meanings added reading like "British colony pound sterling". Besides, the same translation should be used for both GBP-name and GBP-name-other since Korean does not differentiate singular/plural.
