Default paper size for Central American countries

Reported by: jmaslibre@… Owned by: pedberg
Component: main Data Locale:
Phase: Review: emmons
Weeks: Data Xpath:

Currently the CLDR supplemental data specifies A4 as the
default paper size for all countries except US, CA, CL, CO, MX, PH, PR, US and VE.

I am a Guatemalan Citizen and I can say that the standard paper size in Guatemala is US Letter, not A4.

It is virtually impossible to encounter ISO standard papers in day-to-day uses.

Url: Call_for_scholarships
Site: Secretariat of Planning and Programming of the Presidency
Subject: Call 2007-2008 for undergraduate scholarships

It requires: "Deberá redactarse en una hoja tamaño carta .."
Translated: "They must be written on a sheet size letter ..."
US Letter = tamaño carta

Url: Prensa-Libre
Site: Local Newspaper
Subject: Call for Literary Contest

It reads: "... en papel tamaño carta"
Translated "... in paper, size US Letter"

So, please change in

Line 3838:
<paperSize type="US-Letter" territories="CA CL CO MX PH PR US VE"/>

To include Guatemala
<paperSize type="US-Letter" territories="CA CL CO MX PH PR US VE GT"/>

Thanks for your work.

Costa Rica (CR) is in the same situation.

I'm a costarrican national and I have never seen A4-sized paper being commonly used or sold. If you step into an office supply store you'll find lots and lots of US Letter paper but hardly any ISO sizes. Those are found only in "specialty" stores.

Can you please duplicate this bug or broaden its scope to include CR/es_CR as well?

Like in Guatemala (country GT), in El Salvador (country SV) the standard paper size in El Salvador is US Letter, not A4.
Few shops of de capital city can be found a paper of size A4, the size a4 of paper is used only by students of civil engineering, architecture or art. In all other government and private offices, schools and homes the used size is U.S. Letter.
I would greatly appreciate it take into account that the Central American region has the same characteristics.

In Panamá, like in Guatemala (GT), Costa Rica (CR) and El Salvador (SV) the standard paper size is US Letter (al least the most commonly used), not A4.

A4 is used algo but only in certain cases, mostly when US Letter size is not enough.

I can speak for Nicaragua. The only places where you can find A4 paper are office supply stores that handle art supplies for engineers students doing drawing courses. There is no day to day use for A4 size, so it will very nice to change the default to "US Letter" 8.5" x 11" size as default. It will save time and frustration to many people. Please consider including NI too to the list of territories using US Letter.

something here in Belize the standard paper size is US letter 8.5 x 11, the A4 is not common and its hard to get, so the change will be very productive for us, saving us more time.I am speaking for the Belizean people.so please kindly do the changes..
