Add a new locale (be-tarask - Belarusian (Taraškievica))

Description

Hello.

I would like to start a new locale in CLDR — Belarusian (Taraškievica) (the full locale code would be be-BY-tarask, but I'm not sure whether country code may be omitted or not; anyway, 'tarask' subtag is defined in both IANA subtag registry and BCP 47).

MediaWiki (and, consequently, Wikipedia) now severely depends on CLDR database (for instance, country and language names).

I'm a native speaker, and I did a preliminary investigation as for plural forms, calendar/date data, etc. I'm also familiar with the Survey Tool. So, I can be a person who submits core data for the new locale, and the one who can submit more data during the next editing window.

My CLDR account is the same as specified in this ticket meta information.

Regards,
Pavel Selitskas.

The locale code would be be-tarask

Pushing this to release 24 because 23 is a limited release. If I have the basic data well before, I can add the required XML file and prep it for the data phase of 24.

Replying to rick:

By "the basic data" do you mean Core Data for Submission(1)? If so, I'll provide it ASAP.

If some of the data derive from the common 'be' locale, how can I designate that?

Have tried contacting the submitter several times but have no response yet. We are ready to add this data for rel 24. I just need the XML data...

I believe all that's required is an XML file that contains the "new" elements that differ from the parent locale.

Sorry for the delay, Rick. I'll submit the XML very soon!

XML file attached.

comment:10 Changed 4 years ago by srl

my thoughts:

  • the CLDR-TC should approve the locale ids involved
  • an empty locale should be added
  • appropriate users should be creatd
  • the attached XML should be submitted as a bulk upload, so that it's a user's votes

Pavel: core data is ONLY what is listed as core data in the docs. Other things such as you have, ought to be added through the survey tool Since you've already created the file, it can be bulk uploaded.

Reasonable. But let me return to my original question: how should be core data submitted? Should it be LDML or just answers to questions from <http://cldr.unicode.org/index/cldr-spec/minimaldata/form>?

Moving this from unsch to 28 so it gets looked at. I see there is a XML file attached, but I have no idea if that's sufficient for someone to add the locale to the data so it will show up in the Rel 28 ST.
