CLDR Ticket #6802(closed: as-designed)

Seems there's mistake for Japan's short 'generic' metazone

Reported by: Dāvis Mosāns <davispuh@…> Owned by: anybody
Component: other Data Locale: ja

Weeks: Data Xpath: //ldml/dates/timeZoneNames/metazone[@type="Japan"]/short/generic

For Japan's locale (main/ja.xml) in timeZoneNames, there is "<generic>∅∅∅</generic>" for Japan's short metazone but I highly doubt it could be such. And Google didn't showed any results for "∅∅∅".

PS. I must admit I don't know Japanese.

Actually it's definitely an error. Same "∅∅∅" also appears in:

  • en_HK.xml
  • ta_MY.xml
  • ta_SG.xml

The "∅∅∅" has a special meaning in CLDR, which means "don't inherit from the parent". See TR35 for details.

Oh, thanks. I was reading only Timezone related section of TR35 thus didn't know. Seems I'll have to read whole spec. Sorry.
