Incorrect decimal mark for en_ZA

Reported by: timothy@… Owned by: kristi

Description

Hi

The decimal mark for en_ZA is currently set to the comma ",".
However, the comma is very rarely used as a decimal mark in South Africa. Usually the full stop "." is used instead.
Please can the CLDR data be updated to use "." as the decimal mark for en_ZA?

Thanks,
Timothy

From the Zulu team:

What is said here is true "." has to be used rather than the comma.

Hi

This doesn't seem to be fixed in CLDR 26. I see that common/main/en_ZA.xml still specifies the decimal mark as the comma instead of the period in the numbers/symbols/decimal section. It does seem to have been fixed for Zulu though (common/main/zu.xml).

Hi

Thanks for accepting the bug. I just ran into this issue again on another project. Is there any way I can assist to get it fixed? It looks like it just needs a one line change to common/main/en_ZA.xml:

dov is no longer on the project, so resetting so someone else can take it.

The South Africa standards are still debatable, and I recommend that this be discussed in the Survey Tool.
Here's another source supporting the comma with links to other documents: http://www.sadev.co.za/content/how-correctly-format-currency-south-africa

You can get a contributor account from http://cldr.unicode.org/index/survey-tool.
If you have other sources that provide this as the common usage, please feel free to add the information.
