Description

Follow up action from Cldrbug:7091 at the request of Markus.

We should review the policy regarding doubling of backslashes in LDML2ICUConverter ( org/unicode/cldr/icu/IcuTextWriter.java )

method ==> private static String quoteInside(String item);

to see if doubling up on backslashes in ICU data conversion is necessary or desirable at all.

There are several _ESCAPE patterns there. Are they just leftover from the XML collation syntax processing?

I am happy to assist but would rather not own. Andy probably should take a look at the break iterator data and its escaping, Mark at transforms, etc.

Markus - it seems that you're the only one who has any interest in this. If you want to pursue it, then you're going to need to own it.
