Description

I cannot see the Chechen language anywhere in CLDR, and I'd like to add it.

I am working with a person who knows the language and who is interested in translating the data: umar.dagirov@… . He is supposed to have an account here.

Please use this form to provide the "Core XML Data" for a new locale.

  1. Administrative / Locale Identifier

0.a) Requester's Name and Email address:
Amir Aharoni - aaharoni@…
Umar Dagirov - umar.dagirov@…

0.b) Locale name:
Chechen

0.c) Locale identifier(s) (include scripts and territories):
ce_RU

  1. Exemplar Sets

1.a) Main: The minimal characters required for your language (other than punctuation)
Cyrillic alphabet + the Palochka character
а б в г д е ё ж з и й к л м н о п р с т у ф х ц ч щ щ ъ ы ь э ю я Ӏ

1.b) Auxiliary: Additional letters and punctuation (beyond the minimal set) used in foreign or technical words found in typical magazines, newspapers, &c.

1.c) Index: The “shortcut” letters for quickly jumping to sections of a sorted, indexed list (for an example, see mu.edu).
А Б В Г Д Е Ё Ж З И К Л М Н О П Р С Т У Ф Х Ц Ч Ш Щ Ъ Ы Ь Э Ю Я

1.d) Punctuation: The punctuation characters customarily used with your language.
\- ‐ – — , ; \: ! ? . … ' ‘ ‚ " “ „ « » ( ) \[ \] \{ \} § @ * / \& #

left-to-right

2.b) Lines: Which direction are lines written in the language?

Like Turkish (tr) - one and other

  1. Country Data and Default Content

4.a) Is the data in http://www.unicode.org/cldr/charts/latest/supplemental/language_territory_information.html correct for the language and territory? If not, please provide correct data:
The current data is correct

4.b) What should the default content locale be for the language? For example, German, Germany (de_DE) is the default content for German (de). This is usually the country with largest population using that language, and the normal script for that country's use of that language:

See: http://cldr.unicode.org/translation/default-content

The deafult should be Chechen, Russia (ce_RU)

  1. Romanization (for non-Latin scripts only)

5.a) What is the Romanization table for transforming the script into Latin?

If you can link to a chart with Unicode characters (such as http://www.eki.ee/wgrs/rom1_mnc.htm), please do so.
Otherwise, please attach a spreadsheet.

Like Russian.

Bug 7936 was closed as a duplicate but I just want to make sure that the link to the xml dataset we wanted to submit isn't lost - the above describes the locale and the character set but the xml at https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=7765 has additional data which would produce a more rounded dataset.

Sorry, for 1.c in the listed above I forgot to add the palochka character. Here's the correct list:
А Б В Г Д Е Ё Ж З И К Л М Н О П Р С Т У Ф Х Ц Ч Ш Щ Ъ Ы Ь Э Ю Я Ӏ

I wouldn't think you would want the palochka on the index exemplars list, since it is essentially a modifier letter, and from my understanding can't stand on its own as a letter. In other words, you would never see a word starting with "palochka".

I don't really know the language myself, but it does seem to appear in the beginning of words:
https://ce.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:PrefixIndex/%D3%80

For example, the Chechen name of Iraq is "Ӏиракъ".

I'll double check with a speaker.
