Investigate using <object> in charts

Reported by: mark Owned by: mark
Component: unknown Data Locale:
Phase: rc Review:
Weeks: Data Xpath:

One problem with chart generation is that any change in just the generation or date would require updating in SVN, and hide real changes when generating and sanity checking.

We dropped the date for that reason.

However, from http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-html40-970708/struct/includes.html#object-alignment it looks like we might be able to include the data, and better the generation change, by using

<object type="text/html" align='center' codetype="text/html" style="height:2.5em" data="version.html"></object>
<object type="text/html" codetype="text/html" style="height:2.5em" data="date.html"></object>

with the date and version information in separate files in the directory.

I'd use JavaScript instead of <OBJECT>.

Actually, for that matter, have chart "generation" just output a chunk of JSON with the raw data, and render everything in client side JavaScript.
