Add language to South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands(GS)

Reported by: thauk@… Owned by: rick
Component: supplemental Data Locale:
Phase: rc Review:
Weeks: Data Xpath:

Description

Language: English (en-gs). As a British overseas territory, English is an official language.

Speaker population: No permanent or native population, though 30 are estimated by Wikipedia[1]: "The present inhabitants are the British Government Officer, Deputy Postmaster, scientists, and support staff from the British Antarctic Survey who maintain scientific bases at Bird Island and at the capital, King Edward Point, as well as museum staff at nearby Grytviken." The official site gives a count of about 33.[4]

Literacy: A previous ticket[2] estimates literacy at 0% but that much more likely to be closer to 100% given that "the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) operates two bases on South Georgia"[3], so an estimate of 100% is reasonable.

Should probably set Pop to 30, 99% Cliteracy, English... Instead of "unknown language".
