Translation guideline for date format patterns

Description

How much knowledge should the CLDR linguists have about all the available patterns?

The LDML spec is very thorough:
http://www.unicode.org/reports/tr35/tr35-45/tr35-dates.html#dfst-weekday

However, the translation guideline just cover the basics. I’d think that this gap will impact the end result/intention in the spec.

For example, when should they use “ccc” vs “EEE”.
