<h1>The Unicode Consortium</h1>
<h1>Policy on Handling of Confidential Data<br>
</h1>
<blockquote>
<p>For the purposes of this policy, the term "confidential data"
refers to private company information or other private
organizational information not intended to be disclosed outside
the context of the company or organization responsible for that
information.</p>
<p>Unicode, Inc. is a multi-member consortium which uses
electronic mail as one of its primary means of information
interchange. It is possible that there will be occasions that
some confidential data makes its way by mistake into
Consortium documents prepared or distributed electronically. To
deal with this situation, it is the policy of the Consortium
that:</p>
<ul>
<li>All submissions, either in hard copy or in electronic
form, should be reviewed by the submitter to ensure that
they contain no confidential data; furthermore, it is the
responsibility of the submitter, and not of Unicode, Inc.,
to ensure that this review takes place.
</li>
<li>If Unicode Officers are alerted by members or observers
that confidential data is found in Unicode documents or
electronic information, the Officers of the Consortium shall
remove that data from all official Unicode records and files
as soon as possible.
</li>
<li>Consortium members and observers who obtain copies of
documents which contain confidential data, or information
that Unicode has identified as confidential, shall
refrain from actions which would further disseminate such
data, and shall notify an Officer of Unicode, Inc., so that
the Consortium can take appropriate action to remove such
data from official Unicode records and files. </li>
</ul>

<td class="sidebar">To be considered confidential data under
this policy, the data must be of an inherently private or
confidential nature, such as copies of internal business
memoranda or e-mail, design specifications, client or customer
data or the like. The mere presence of an e-mail signature or
similar device claiming confidential status is not sufficient.</td>
</tr>

<p>Anyone who knowingly disseminates confidential data found
in Unicode electronic mail or other documents shall be in direct
violation of this policy of Unicode, Inc. Appropriate actions
may be taken by the Officers of Unicode, Inc. to remediate such
violations. These actions may include, but are not limited to:
termination of membership in the Consortium (requires consent of
Board of Directors) and the banning of anyone from Unicode
activities.</p>
