Emoji Candidates, v3.0

The Unicode Technical Committee (UTC) has accepted the following 8 characters as candidates for emoji. At the 2016Q4 UTC meeting, a final determination will be made of the emoji characters to be added to Unicode 10.0, for release in June, 2017. See also the Emoji Recently Added.

Candidates are tentative: they may be removed or their code point, glyph, or name changed. No code point values for candidates are final, until (and if) the candidates are included as characters in a version of Unicode. Do not deploy any of these.

For information about the images used in these charts, see Emoji Images and Rights. For details about the format and fields, see Emoji Chart Index. Support of emoji is not required for conformance to the Unicode Standard — for more information about emoji, see UTR #51 Unicode Emoji. To propose a new emoji, see Submitting Emoji Character Proposals.

These candidates were based on proposals received by the Emoji Subcommittee and Unicode members, and selected on the basis of the Emoji Selection Factors in Submitting Emoji Character Proposals. Anyone can file a proposal for a new emoji: see the instructions on that page.

Candidates have placeholder code points (like X00000) until the UTC meeting in Q4 of each year. After prioritization at that Q4 UTC meeting, some candidates will then be given final code points (like U+1F939), and appear in the Unicode Standard in Q2 of the next year. The process was different before 2016Q2, so candidates from 2016Q1 had already been given provisional code points. This does not necessarily mean that they will be in the 2017 version of Unicode. For more information on the timeline, see Process and Timeline.
