I tried to post a message with two characters from the SMP, U+272F0 and U+27499, and got "SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ] Incorrect string value: '\xF0\xA7\x8B\xB0 U...' for column 'post_text' at row 1 [1366]". That incorrect string value is the UTF-8 for U+272F0, by the way. Forgive me if this seems condescending, but don't we think the Unicode forum software should properly handle supplementary planes?

Yes... I looked into this when Belloc reported it this morning. It looks like either the PHPBB forum software or the back-end SQL installation doesn't properly parse plane 2 characters. We don't really have the resources to try modifying any of this off-the-shelf software.
