Hi,

I can see localizations for "Yes" and "No" in CLDR. As I'm sure you are aware in Welsh and Irish there are no direct translations for "Yes" and "No" because the answers depend on the questions being asked. I noticed that the cy.xml file does not contain any translation for "Yes" and "No" and therefore picks up the English versions.

I have two questions:-

1. Are there any plans for CLDR to handle this problem better than the standard approach of getting localizers to always phrase questions so they the result in a known 'I do'/'I do not' response ?

2. Why aren't there 'generic' translations for "Yes" and "No" (e.g. in Welsh "Iawn" and "Na", meaning "OK" and "No") ? Even these would be better than using English.

#1 Yes/No here is for POSIX compliance. I don't see it going much beyond "You're about to post to the CLDR Forum. Proceed? (Lawn/Na)".
