Abstract

Target Audience: Manager, Software Engineer, Systems Analyst, Other: Localization Managers

Level of Session: Beginner

Localizers hate them, developers don't understand them, and API support is marginal. Nevertheless, Win32's multilingual resource file format has many interesting features and is well-supported in Microsoft's Developer Studio. In this talk we show how a multilingual resource can provide multilanguage operation for programs in Windows 95/98 and Windows NT, that simple API's can be written to use them directly, and, by exploiting compilation switches, can provide a useful central reference for building separate language DLL's and/or language versions of an application.
