Biography

Martin J. Dürst is a Project Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Media and Governance at Keio University (Japan). He is working in the team of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), mainly on internationalization. He has contributed and is contributing to standards such as HTML, CSS, XML, and URIs, trying to make sure they can be used truly worldwide. His research interests include font design and description, in particular for ideographs, text in multimedia and 3-D environments, and software construction with object-oriented application frameworks.

Previously, Martin was a Senior Research Associate at the MultiMedia Laboratory of the Department of Computer Science of the University of Zurich (Switzerland). He obtained his Dr.sc. from the University of Tokyo (Japan) in 1990 with work on image compression and transmission, and has a Masters degree from the University of Zurich in Computer Science, Business Management, and Japanese Studies.
