Dr. Qin LU is the Associate Professor at the Dept. of Computing, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She started working in the field of Chinese computing from 1992 as the director of Hanzix, a privately funded project in Chinese Open Computing. She has since worked in Chinese Processing related areas on open systems, system software development, information retrieval and standardization. Dr. Lu initiated the I- Hanzix open system architecture which uses the I18N/L10N concepts to support multiple locales and also support codeset announcement at the system level.

Prof. Lu received an Industrial Support fund in the sum of 3.67 millions to develop a Chinese information Server and the Server Access Software over the internet to make information access over the internet codeset transparent without regard to what Chinese encodings of the Chinese documents being accessed.

Dr. Lu has been very active in standardisation for Chinese computing. Being an expert in the Unix system and Open Systems, Dr. Lu was invited numerous times by the Technical committee of the Chinese Information Technology Standard Organisation to advice on open system platforms and ideographic language support. Dr. Lu, representing Hong Kong, has been leading the Hong Kong team since 1992 in ISO 10646's IRG for the revision and extension of ideographic characters, structure symbols, and other work which will be reflected in the next version of ISO 10646. Dr. Lu has received a Hong Kong Industrial Support Fund in the sum of 3,657,000 on the project entitled: The Building Blocks of SO10646 migration in Hong Kong -- Hong Kong Glyph Specification, Font Set and Tools. She is the main contributor to HKSCS. She is now sitting in the Chinese Language Interface Advisory Committee of HKSAR government.
