The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) XML Query Working Group [1] was chartered in September 1999 to develop a query language for XML [2] documents. A Full-Text Task Force (FTTF) was also formed in 2002 to develop a Full-Text query language for XQuery.

Areas of focus will be language design issues related to internationalization of XQuery, including adding Full- Text Search to XQuery, the current Full-Text XQuery Requirements [3] document, and the status of the current Full-Text XQuery language proposal.
