This talk will recount the critical role of Unicode in meeting an international crisis. Details of this story are now being cleared in the U.S. government for public release. The talk will also discuss how Unicode 4.0 and Microsoft's new technology--particularly their user-definable keyboard--have significantly simplified the ability to respond to similar situations. It will also address the areas the Unicode Community still needs to address, particularly in providing Unicode fonts.
