Marcus studied history at Humboldt-University in Berlin and received his degree in 1991. Since 1992 Research Fellow of the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum. Research interests include history of the Late Roman Republic, especially the prosopography of this period. A member of Association Internationale d'Épigraphie Grecque et Latine (AIEGL) and member of the Commission Epigraphie et Informatique of the AIGLE.
