Everyone keeps missing the obvious solution for Michael. He has a Mac... he
could run Apple's native Unicode system, called Mac OS X Server, instead of
Mac OS 8.5. Then he could edit Unicode files directly, and save them as
UTF-8. I won't burden you all with a commercial. Check it out on the web.
