Well, actually, I *was* referring to International Telegraph Alphabet
number 1. The Baudot Code used in Telex is ITA number 2, but it
didn't exist in 1916 -- it was standardized in the 1930's. There actually
are (or were) lots of "Baudot Codes", which just adds to the merriment. See:
