As long as standard encoding is used, the data should not be
affected. In other words, the font selection/display is the
final step in a project like the one you described, as Michael
Kaplan pointed out.

When everyone is using the same (standard) encoding, the author
of an application may not even need to specify a font, trusting
that the users already have default fonts installed covering the
desired scripts.

It is when non-standard encodings are used (like the Private Use
Area) that an author must be especially wary of font choice.

It's the font that is causing the display problems on this system,
at least as far as the one line of text we were discussing.

The OpenType tables for Devanagari are not yet complete in the
Code2000 font. I'll try to remedy this soon.
