Yuri Yarmola wrote to say that he is working on a solution to encoding
supplementary characters in FontLab fonts, but that the initial solution
will not involve the necessary total rewrite of FontLab's internal Unicode
indexing. However, it will be possible to generate 4-byte cmap tables.
