Displaying Unicode

Hello

Can anybody please advise as to whether the following is correct .

To Display Unicode text containing complex scripts e.g. Hindi, one of the
following systems must exist on my computer.

UNICODE > Font Type > Script Processor > DISPLAY

UNICODE > OpenType > Uniscribe > DISPLAY [Windows]

UNICODE > AAT > ATSUI > DISPLAY [Mac]

UNICODE > OpenType or AAT > ICU > DISPLAY [Java]

UNICODE > Graphite Fonts > Graphite > DISPLAY [Windows]

UNICODE > OpenType > FreeType Layout ?> DISPLAY [Linux]

(AAT and Graphite fonts are TrueType fonts with extra tables)

Any other systems?

Question: What possibility is there that the script processors (layout
engines?) and fonts will converge and use a single standard?
(no chance would be my answer)

Regards

Charlie Jolly
