    In those limited-display environments, sure, the more text you can cram
    into one column the better. On an 80-column screen or in today's GUI
    environments, I imagine the need is greatly reduced.

    BTW, notice in this thread how consistently users are typing the
    individual letters I and J to refer to the precomposed IJ character.
    That should tell us a lot about how necessary this precomposed character
    really is to support Dutch.
