[I tried sending this a few days ago, but don't think it went through.]
I just received my copy of the newly-published Ethnologue 15th edn. It's
very nicely done. Beside the refinement of the data to be expected in
each new edition, the most obvious value-add are the maps: there are
over 200 pages of colour maps. Another big change is that, as of this
edition, the identifier scheme has been revised so as to conform with
ISO 639 - the IDs match those in ISO/DIS 639-3. Everything is packed
into a single, hard-cover volume. It's got a quality binding that allows
the book to lie open at any page, which is great in a reference volume.
Information about what script(s) are used for each language is starting
to be compiled and is included in this edition. Unfortunately, there
don't appear to be very many entries for which this info is yet
included. Perhaps there will be better info of this sort when the 16th
edition is published in another four years.
