    So, the whole discussion was not about plain text (as already indicated

    What's your point in reminding us about this fact after dozends of
    messages to that thread?

    But the discussion reveals, that the markup-topic "colorize ligatures"
    seems to become easier to solve at a rendering-engine level, because at
    this level a single glyph can be handled partwise, at higher levels this
    is only possible if a "ligature" consists of separate glyphs which are
    only kerned together.
    Or do I miss something?
