I use the CD version of the Hanyu Da Cidian, the big Chinese dictionary, and
normally have to switch to Chinese (Taiwan).
I have now tried AppLocale, but find that whichever version of Chinese I
select in the AppLocale menu the program still won't run quite correctly. In
fact the pinyin expressions are lacking the accented characters. Otherwise
it's OK, and shows all the Chinese characters, without having to switch the
the language, with its tiresome reboot.
