UK COMMENTS ACCOMPANYING VOTE OF APPROVAL ON ISO/IEC 10646-1/FPDAM.21- SINHALA

Technical Comments

On page 2, Table 237 (the code table), the stroke width in the font used for displaying the Sinhala characters is much too thick and should be substantially reduced. The present font conceals some essential distinguishing features of the Sinhala characters, which are of exceptional complexity compared with most other alphabetic scripts encoded in this standard.

A sample of Table 237 using a more suitable font is attached (note paper copy only).

Editorial Comments

On page2, Table 237, the decimal numbers from 000-127 that are shown in the individual character cells are:
a. wrong (they should range from 128 to 255) and
b. much too small, and should be enlarged to the same size as the comparable numbers in existing tables in ISO/IEC 10646.
