Proposed New Unicode Characters /
Pipeline Table

N 2187

Date: March 17, 2000
Source: The Unicode Consortium
Status: Liaison contribution
Action: For consideration by WG2 in preparing amendments to ISO/IEC 10646

Synchronization of the Unicode Standard and ISO/IEC 10646 requires that both committees ultimately approve the same set of characters. These approvals may not always happen in the same order. As the work begins on extensions of ISO/IEC 10646-1 beyond the second edition, it is useful to consider a summary of all characters and script that have cleared the hurdle of having  been accepted by the Unicode Technical Committee for inclusion into future versions of the Unicode Standard (post Unicode 3.0).  This document is for information only, it is not a new character proposal, but summarizes all outstanding proposals either made or endorsed by Unicode and is presented here to help WG2 in the synchronization process.

The table below lists those characters and scripts that have been formally approved by the Unicode Technical Committee, together with the document number of the actual SC2 new character proposal form and their status in the UTC and ISO process respectively.

The Aegean scripts were approved by the Unicode Technical Committee prior to Meeting 32 in Crete. In the event, during that meeting WG2 did not take up these scripts at that meeting. Formal proposals for these scripts will be submitted by The Unicode Consortium at a future date.

Not covered in this document is the character repertoire for the CD for ISO/IEC 10646-2. For those characters, the formal UTC acceptance will be integrated into the review and comment period for the CD and DIS ballots.

For additional information see http://www.unicode.org/unicode/alloc/Pipeline.html.

JCS - refers to the set of JCS character proposals dated July 15, 1999. The table indicates the subset of characters from these proposals that have been formally endorsed by the UTC.
