This is the second call for WG2 meeting # 42 starting on 20 May 2002 at 10:00 am and ending at noon on 23 May 2002 in Dublin, Ireland.  The host organization is NSAI, the national body of Ireland.  The meeting is also hosted by Microsoft, Lotus and Everson Typography.  The meeting venue is at Microsoft.  Here is the address:

Mr. Michael Everson is the contact point for logistics and Dr. Ian Cowan from NSAI for visas to enter Ireland.  Those who need a visa to enter Ireland should start working on this as early as you can.  It was brought up to my attention that only DPR Korea requested help to obtain a visa.  I would encourage attendees from other countries who also need a visa to contact Dr. Ian J. Cowan immediately.

I am attaching additional logistics information with respect to hotel accommodations and methods of transportation to the meeting location at the Microsoft campus.  Accommodations are at the Burlington Hotel but there are other cheaper hotels as well.  Participants are advised to make their own hotel reservations directly with the hotel they choose.  Please notify me and our host, Michael Everson, if you intend to attend the meeting.

 

This second call for WG2 meeting # 42 includes a preliminary agenda but I invite you to send me topics to add to it.  The agenda outline is similar to the one we used in our earlier meetings.  The objective of this meeting is to continue the WG2 program of work.

Detailed Logistics Information:

 

The meeting venue is in the Microsoft buildings. EPDC2 (where the meeting will take place) is located in South County Business Park.  This is somewhat south of the city centre, where Dublin's nightlife reigns supreme.

 

If you are traveling by car or taxi, can make your way to the Leopardstown Roundabout, you take the exit for South County Business Park (this is also the exit for Leopardstown Hospital). You follow that road to the very end which brings you to the EPDC2 building. There is parking all around the building and you should have no problem getting a space close to the reception. The Auditorium, where the meeting will be held, is directly opposite the reception desk when you walk in the main door. You will need to check in at reception first and pick up an ID badge.

 

Evertype is looking into the possibility of renting a bus which will go from the Burlington to the Microsoft campus and back. It will be necessary for delegates making use of this bus to pay between EUR40 and EUR70 for this service for the duration of the WG2 meeting, depending on what kind of bus and how many people would use it. Please e-mail Michael Everson (mailto:everson@evertype.com) *right away* if you are interested in taking this bus. Depending on how many people we have expressing an interest it will be possible to know how large a bus to get and how much the charge will be. If you don't take a bus you will have to book a taxi each day and you should know that Dublin's traffic situation is legendary for its traffic jams. Bus sizes available are 16-, 24-, and 53-seaters. We need to book soon, so please contact Michael right away to let him know you are willing to take the bus.

 

The 21st Unicode Conference will be at the Burlington hotel the week before the WG2 meeting, and it is likely that a good number of people attending the one and staying there will remain there. Prices given below are *approximate* and for some hotels vary depending on how booked-up they are, so you are advised to contact them and make your arrangements as soon as possible.

 

Hotels given here are in South City Central (Dublin 2) and in Ballsbridge (Dublin 4). You can book some of these online (see links below).

We have planned a bus excursion to Br๚ na B๓inne, Newgrange, Ireland's 4000-year-old pre-Celtic megalithic monuments, for the Sunday preceding the WG2 meeting. This is hosted by Lotus/IBM. Delegates interested in this excursion should plan to arrive in Ireland on Friday or Saturday.

 

I am also looking into a visit to the Chester Beatty Museum in the City Centre which is one of the most amazing collections of illuminated manuscripts from the Western, Islamic, and Asian traditions. That could be for Thursday afternoon after the meetings are over, or Friday if people are staying on.

 

You are kindly requested to register for the bus excursion.  The final details and arrangements for the excursion are not available yet but please notify Michael Everson of your intentions if you plan to participate in this excursion.
