Re: Status Report on Aegean Script Proposal (Linear B, Aegean Numbers and Cypriot Syllabary)

The Aegean scripts proposal by Michael Everson (http://www.egt.ie/standards/iso10646/pdf/aegean.pdf) has been distributed to various specialists of Linear B and the Cypriot syllabary. Yves Duhoux (Département d'Études grecques, latines et orientales, Faculté de Philosophie et Lettres, Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium) has already reviewed it carefully. Further input is being sought from Emmett Bennett (Emeritus, Univ. of Wisconsin), Jean-Pierre Olivier (Fonds National Belge de la Recherche Scientifique), John Bennet (Oxford), Tom Palaima and Kevin Pluta (University of Texas at Austin), Ivo Hajnal (University of Innsbruck) and José Melena (Universidad del Pais Vasco).

The Linear B (=Mycenaean) scholarly community is very interested in seeing Linear B included in Unicode and passed a resolution at the Eleventh Mycenological Colloquium at Austin, Texas, in May 8-12 to this effect. The Co-chair of the Committee on Scholarly Tools and Resources for this group, Yves Duhoux, is taking an active role in seeing the proposal for Linear B proposal (and other Aegean scripts) move forward.

A more mature proposal is expected by the May UTC meeting.
