Status Report on Aegean Script Proposal (Linear B, Aegean Numbers and Cypriot Syllabary)

A revised version of the Aegean scripts proposal was created by Michael Eversion (with assistance from myself) on 3 April 2001. It is located at: http://www.egt.ie/standards/iso10646/pdf/n2327-aegean.pdf and is incorporated in the UCS Proposal ISO/IEC JTC1/SC2/WG2 N2327. This represents an updated version of the earlier document (http://www.egt.ie/standards/iso10646/pdf/aegean.pdf) and profits from comments by the Committee on the Linear B Signary, sent on 12 February 2001.  This most recent version will be reviewed carefully by Yves Duhoux (Département d'Études grecques, latines et orientales, Faculté de Philosophie et Lettres, Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium) and  Ivo Hajnal (University of Innsbruck). A copy of the version will also be sent to José Melena (Universidad del Pais Vasco) and Jose-Pierre Olivier (Fonds National Belge de la Recherche Scientifique).

The Linear B (=Mycenaean) scholarly community is very interested in seeing Linear B included in Unicode and passed a resolution at the Eleventh Mycenological Colloquium at Austin, Texas, in May 8–12, 2000 to this effect. The Co-chair of the Committee on Scholarly Tools and Resources for this group, Yves Duhoux, is taking an active role in seeing the proposal for Linear B proposal (and other Aegean scripts) move forward.

The full proposal should be ready over the summer.
