Proposed New Characters: The Pipeline
last updated 2023-April-26
This page presents a summary of the characters, scripts, variation sequences,
and named character sequences that
the Unicode Technical Committee
has accepted for inclusion in future versions of the Unicode Standard
or code point ranges that have been provisionally assigned for possible encoding
of characters in mature proposals.
For current information about the status of publication and processing for
emoji characters, easier to understand information with
all of the emoji displayed can be found instead at
Emoji Recently Added and
Emoji Candidates.
For more information, including the planned use of remaining code space, see
About the Pipeline Table and the Roadmaps.
Caution: Use of proposed or accepted characters is at implementers' own risk;
the repertoire, names and code points of some characters may change before they are finally
published in the Unicode Standard.
Note: If the Allocation or Character Sequence field below is marked with a "*",
there is a pending change in the code points for the proposed allocation, a pending name change,
or both. Action by a subsequent UTC meeting is required to resolve such differences,
and the results will be posted back into this table once the differences between the
UTC and ISO positions are formally reconciled by the UTC.
The following colors are used to indicate the entry status in the Pipeline tables:
Color Code |
Entry Status |
Not Yet Stable |
light green |
accepted by UTC and in active ISO technical ballot (or on hold for ballot) |
light yellow |
accepted by UTC, but not yet in ISO ballot |
light tan |
code points reserved by the UTC for mature proposals not yet formally accepted |
Stable and Frozen for Publication |
white |
frozen for publication, ISO technical balloting completed and either in ISO approval ballot
or pending ISO publication |
Characters accepted by the UTC which are approved and planned for publication in the next
version of the Unicode Standard are listed in the following table. The
term draft candidate is used to indicate that the accepted character has been
included in the repertoire targeted for publication in the next version.
Until the start of the official beta review, the code
points and character names for draft candidates are not immutable—the UTC
will consider feedback regarding proposed character names or other issues.
Draft candidates may also be reconsidered by the UTC. They may be removed from draft candidate
status and be postponed for consideration for a future version, instead.
Once the beta review for a particular version starts, code points and character names
for that repertoire are locked down
and become immutable. Watch the beta review page and
the list of Public Review Issues to check on the status of
beta review. After the start of beta review for this repertoire, please
follow the detailed instructions on the beta PRI to report any problem
regarding character properties or other issues.
Current Status Note:
The following repertoire is currently in preparation for beta review.
Code points and characters names are now frozen.

The following table lists code point ranges provisionally assigned for specific repertoire
associated with proposals that the UTC has deemed mature and ready for encoding.
None of these characters has as yet been formally accepted and approved for a
future version of the Unicode Standard. Code point ranges are set aside, however,
to assist with planning and with proposal review.
These provisional code point assignments are not immutable, but should be considered
more stable than tentative allocation ranges noted in the
Roadmaps.
