Script Encoding Initiative: Past and Future
Anushah Hossain, Deborah Anderson
The Script Encoding Initiative (SEI) is a project hosted at the University of California, Berkeley that has gotten over 100 historic and minority scripts encoded in Unicode. SEI has held a unique position in the world of software internalization, interfacing between end user communities, researchers, implementers, and standards-makers. This talk will offer a retrospective of SEI’s work over the past twenty years, including challenges and lessons learned. It will also discuss SEI’s upcoming initiatives and vision for the future, outlining opportunities for others to get involved in its work.
