Apple Type Services for Unicode Imaging (ATSUI), which is a new feature
of Mac OS 8.5, has the full facility to display non-BMP characters. The
limitation on the TrueType cmaps isn't a real problem, as the non-BMP
characters can be treated as ligatures for purposes of display.
