Re: Gregg's message.
I'm not going to pursue this much further because I really can't get into
all this symbolic logic argumentation (I have other things to do). However:
Technical definition:
A character is member of a set of elements used for the organisation,
control, or representation of data.
A letter is an element of an alphabet or abjad.
An alphabet is a structured collection of graphic symbols used to represent
one or more languages, having specific elements representing for vowels and
consonants.
An abjad is a structured collection of graphic symbols used to represent
one or more languages, having specific elements representing for consonants.
An abudiga is a structured collection of graphic symbols used to represent
one or more languages, having specific elements representing for syllables.
These latter terms are Daniels & Bright's.
If you don't know what a consonant or a vowel is, please use an ordinary
dictionary. I refer to speech sounds (represented by the graphic symbols).
/x/ is in Welsh and Slovak written the letter "ch", represented in the UCS
by <c> + <h>. /x/ is in Polish and German written with the letters "c" and
"h", which also is represented in the UCS by <c> + <h>.
