Hello, Peter & all you UniCode friends!
I agree on option 2—it's THE ultimately best route available concerning the
situation. The 2 characters are distinct/separate, & are used
differently—<f> left-tailed is an International African Institute phonetic
letter for a bilabial /f/, while the florin (ƒ) sign is used in Dutch money.
I agree with position #2 wholeheartedly!!
