Hi,
I am using Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition and Microsoft Internet
Explorer Version 5.50. I opened the Unicode Hindi page:
http://www.unicode.org/unicode/standard/translations/hindi.html
in my browser.
There are numerous errors on this Hindi page (if you wish, I can send a
screen-shot) and it hasn't been rendered correctly. For instance, in places
where a ligatured/combined/conjunct (i am unsure of the term) glyph is
needed, the uncombined form (consonant + halant + consonant) is shown. Also
in the essay title itself and everywhere within the document, the
'chhoti(little) i' maatra is incorrectly placed after the consonant that it
is modifying instead of before. As a result, the essay title, instead of
reading: Unicode kyaa hai? reads: Unkiode kyaa hai?
It seems that the text is being rendered in the same sequence that it was
typed, ie. phonetically, sound by sound. Why is this error there? Is Arial
Unicode MS font unable to render conjunct glyphs correctly and to place the
vowel maatraas correctly? I hope someone can please explain this.
Thanks,
Dinesh Agarwal
