A related question.
E-mail msgs used to come in with ">" to mark start of each quoted line.
Now they tend to come in with a vertical bar to serve the same purpose.
AND it is not possible to cut and paste that into the middle of a line.
If you try to do that, the symbol reverts to a start-of-line position.
Obviously, by its behaviour, this is a different species of vertical
bar.
How many species of vertical bar chars really need to be named &
defined?
For example, the following line clearly employs two different species:
> ...
> be *approximated* by "| ", "|| ", "||| ", "||||"...
I see the "tally mark" like a musical "bar" (denoting one count). Is
it not?
