Even Microsoft Typography specs call for font developers to make
glyphs for "invisible" characters and include them in fonts.
Please see the recommended glyphs for U+200C through U+200F

The page was apparently last updated in 2001. The practice of
font developers including glyphs for invisible characters is
relatively longstanding. So, as MichKa points out, people involved
in OpenTypography are unlikely to shift viewpoints.
