A book that may be useful for people looking for information on
recent font technology is Yannis Haralambous' "Fonts and Encodings",
published by O'Reilly (http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596102425/).
Denizens of this list are likely to find that they already know what
it has to say about encodings, but as someone not all that familiar
with things at the font level, I have found it quite useful.
