I like to use (g)vim for this on both Unix and Windows with this statusline:
set statusline=%<%f%(\ %h%m%r%w%)\ %y%=%l,%c%V\ of\ %L\ [%06.6b:0x%05.5B]\ %P
This displays the code in both decimal and hexadecimal on the right side of
the statusline when you move the cursor over it.
